Harare, Zimbabwe – The Besana Mail with the support from Code for Africa is proud to announce the launch of Zim Truth Radar, a dedicated fact-checking and verification project committed to promoting accuracy, accountability, and media literacy in Zimbabwe.
In a time of increasing disinformation, political propaganda, and digitally manipulated narratives, Zim Truth Radar seeks to provide clear, evidence-based verification of public claims, viral content, and media reports. The project’s guiding motto, “challenging the false”, reflects its mission to uphold the integrity of public discourse.
“Refine represents a bold step forward in our commitment to ethical journalism,” said the Editorial Director of The Besana Mail. “It’s not just about correcting falsehoods, it’s about refining how we think, question, and engage with the truth.”
Operating under the editorial independence of The Besana Mail, Zim Truth Radar will publish:
- Timely fact-checks on news events, social media content, and public statements.
- Data-driven investigations into recurring misinformation patterns.
- Media literacy resources to help readers evaluate information critically.
Zim Truth Radar will also collaborate with journalists, civil society actors, and technology partners to develop tools and content that empower citizens to identify and resist manipulation.
The first round of fact-checks and public-facing materials will be published from May 2025.
